Every Amsterdam native will share a little about their lives, their favorite spots, and what makes Amsterdam so special to them. Take it all in. After all, the People of Amsterdam know Amsterdam best. This week: Yuki Kempees, artist, columnist and author.

What’s your favorite spot in Amsterdam?
Cora is my favorite spot to get the best sandwiches. All the products they use are fresh and delicious. Tip: order sandwich number 10, but switch the tomato with apple! You’ll get the best sandwich in Amsterdam.

Where can you find the best coffee in town?
The best coffee in town is at Hotel V. I always go to Hotel V on the Nes. It’s at the Lobby, great coffee.

Where to go for a Sunday brunch?
Hotel V is also my favorite place to go for sunday brunch. The staff is friendly and the vibe is just very chill. I really enjoy sitting there. I would recommend to take the pancakes for brunch. Why not? You’re in The Netherlands, you should try the pancakes.

Where to go to dancing all night long?
Well, in the Netherlands during the summer I would highly recommend you to check out the music festivals. But if you wanna go clubbing I would always recommend the Chin Chin Club because of the variety of parties over there. Also the new Lovelee club is supposed to be nice. But I only heard that from my girlfriend Lizzy.

What’s your guilty pleasure when you’re hungover?
That’s definitely G’s bar on the Ferdinand Bolstraat. That’s where you can eat all kinds of dirty fried chicken dishes and crazy hangover cocktails and stuff like that.

Where do you go for your favorite dessert?
I’m not really a dessert kind of guy. If I had to choose I would go to Café Caron. That’s a restaurant where you don’t only go for dessert, but they do have a great selection of desserts.

What’s your favorite store to go shopping?
I would highly recommend Mendo, which is a bookstore in the 9 streets. They have all kinds of different, beautiful books in all genres, but especially in design and fashion.

Where to go to find the best Dutch local treat?
You should try pancakes, which is a guilty pleasure of mine. I always take my little niece and nephew to het Pannenkoekenhuis. That’s on the Weteringscircuit. The building is a old carousel.

Where to go to spot some art or culture?
Well, of course Moco Museum. But just go to the museum quarter and go to one museum a day. Like Van Gogh, Rijks or Moco museum. Those are great.

Where can you get the best cocktails in town?
De Japanner. They serve really good Japanese street food and they are open until late. So you can always find a place at the bar and drink a cocktail. And it’s funny because it’s a laid back, funky restaurant.

Favorite neighbourhood to stroll around the whole day?
De Pijp, where I live, is great! But I think if I had to stroll around anywhere else I would go to de Jordaan because off all the small cafes and the restaurants. You can always discover something new there, even after living here for 10 years.

Where do we get the best rooftop view of Amsterdam? What’s special about that spot?
Is there any other rooftop than the A’dam Toren? No there isn’t. Go to the A’dam Toren or the lunch room in de Kalvertoren, where they serve your sandwiches cold but the view is hot!

Let’s talk self care. What’s your favorite spot? (for facial, manicure, pedicure or haircut)
Well, the only self care that I ever do is get a massage. I always get them de Nieuwmarkt, where they do Chinese traditional massages. It will cost you a lot but it’s great. It’s the best massage in town because I’ve tried them all, and I always find myself coming back to that one.
