People of Amsterdam | Emily

Meet the People of Amsterdam. Here we will showcase a different Amsterdam native every week. Every Amsterdam native will share a little about their lives during quarantine, sharing their favorite spots, and what makes Amsterdam so special to them. These interviews showcased another perspective that influenced their lifestyles. Read about how each individual continues to work on their work-life balance. Take it all in. After all, the People of Amsterdam know Amsterdam best. This week: Emily Davids, Account manager @Speakeasy, entrepreneur

Have there been any changes in how you work? How do you cope with those changes?
Of course, we experienced differences in our work. But nothing compared to the hospitality and event businesses.
Could you share with us about your mindset to stay motivated?
I am quite a positive person. It’s not that hard for me to stay positive. But let’s say this is a (hopefully) once in a lifetime thing we’re going through. So that’s why I’ve tried to see the positive side of it. More time to look around, work on yourself, write, think, work out your ideas, etc. Although this was the case, the first lockdown, the second lockdown we are currently in is different. It’s colder and more challenging. But we’re still healthy, and we’re able to work. I have a small group of people around me that makes me laugh every day, which helps me.
How do you continue to build relationships with the people you work with?
I call the team 40 times a day!
Could you tell us about the spot where you and your colleagues love to hangout? Why and do you still go there?
We love to hang out at the office. It’s in a great location in the city. It has become such a safe place, and I love the company’s friends swinging by sometimes.

Do you have a goal of how you’ll come out of this Covid-19 situation? Could you tell us about it and how you’re going to achieve it?
I can’t wait for Covid to be over, and there will be no limitations anymore. We have so much in stock!
Is there something or someone that’s helping you to get through the lockdown?
Lots of humor, creativity, and cigarettes.
Have you adopted anything new as a part of your lifestyle? Do you see it continuing even after the pandemic?
I am drinking less and sporting more often. I am more productive than ever.
We all have something we could be proud of. Could you share with us your moment of pride during the lockdown?
Lots! I am proud of the fitter lifestyle I maintain. I am proud to see people taking care of each other. But most of the moments I have with the people I grew more close to because of these weird circumstances.

Have you found a new spot in Amsterdam that you are going to more often? Please tell us where and what do you like about it.
Noordermarkt! I love my Saturdays there! I live in the Jordaan, so waking up without a hangover, having a wine and a walk at the Noordermarkt is the perfect Saturday for me.
What’s by far your favorite place/spot in Amsterdam
Oef, many! I love the Noordermarkt, a cup of coffee at Kaldi, and walk through the 9 straatjes.
Restaurants and local stores were closed for a while. Which one are you glad to have reopened and why?
I went to Morgan & Mees a lot when they were open. It’s close to my house and they have a beautiful garden.
How are you going to spend your vacation days, now that you can hardly travel anywhere?
I’ve been to Ibiza and had lots of fun in Amsterdam in the summer. So I’ve had a pretty nice summer!
Are you longing for things to complete return to what it was? Or do you have something you’ve experienced during the lockdown that you wish to have continued into the future?
I am longing for the ‘Normal’ life again. But I am scared as well. I think it’s going to be a crazy town for a while. So much partying and FOMO again! I think there will be a less balanced life, but it is our life, and I hope to get back to normal soon.
Do you have a tip or advice for the reader to help them get through the pandemic?
Don’t spend too many hours complaining because you won’t get back the hours, and it won’t change the situation. You might as well make the most of it.
