Meet the People of Amsterdam. Here we will showcase a different Amsterdam native every week. Every Amsterdam native will share a little about their lives during quarantine, sharing their favorite spots, and what makes Amsterdam so special to them. These interviews were done during quarantine. Take it all in. After all, the People of Amsterdam know Amsterdam best. This week: Pip Peters, Freelance Stylist/ Fashion Editor/Creative.
How has the coronavirus changed your daily life?
At the beginning of 2020 Iāve decided to quit my full time job, and then corona came knockingā¦ Iām a Fashion Editor/ Stylist and getting jobs right now is hard. But Iām trying to make the best of it and create my own opportunities. Before quarantine I had a killing social agenda, I never ate at home, was always having a drink with someone or had a lots of events planned. First few weeks of lockdown were really relaxed, but Iām starting to miss being everywhere and nowhere.
What things didnāt change?
Waking up and going back to bed, haha. Quarantine really turned my world upside down.
Whatās your favorite spot in your home?
The living room, for sure. My roommate, Romy, is also my best friend and I love to be around her. Weāve decorated it together and made it a very cozy place, including our names in big neon letters hanging above the green velvet couch.
Whatās your experience with working from home?
I feel very restless and not as creative. I love to get my inspiration by visiting a museum for example. Iāve done some virtual tours, but itās definitely not the same. I also get distracted real easily when I work from home. Thereās always something else to do instead of working.
What is your favorite restaurant to order from?
Last night Romy and I ordered dinner at Dining27. The parents of a girlfriend of ours own the private dining and they now also got a take away menu. It was a-ma-zing. We had some real tasty pastaās and burrata. Do I need to say more?
Did you have any plans that are cancelled now?
For all the people that know me, or follow me on social media, know that Iām a big fan of festivals and other parties. āParty Pipā, is my nickname. Unfortunately this wonāt be a fully booked summerā¦
We believe in āsupport your localsā. Do you have a store in your neighborhood that you still support?
The Ten Katemarkt is my favorite place to get my groceries. Theyāve got the best cheeses and fresh vegetables. When It comes to clothes and other things I only try to buy from local vintage shops, such as RĆŖveuse Vintage or Rataplan. I love to hunt for unique pieces.
What is your favorite area to go for a walk these days?
I live right next to Rembrandtpark but before quarantine I had barely been thereā¦ Now I go for a walk there almost every day or, when itās really sunny, Romy and I host a small picknick session for the two of us.
What restaurant/bar/coffee shop do you miss the most?
Hotel de Goudfazant and Wijmpje Beukers. My friends and I had the best nights there. Now we daily text each other how badly we want to have a āGoudfazant date night outā.
What is the first thing you are going to do when we are out of lockdown?
Hug all my friends and invite them all for a big (dinner) party. And, visit my hairdresser!
How do you keep up with your selfcare from home?
I recently started to work out every morning, it makes me feel more awake and I get a kickstart of my day. Hate going to the gym, so thatās something I really donāt miss.
What I do miss is my monthly massage and visiting my hairdressers at āKapsalon de Jordaanā. Tried to cut my pony once and I totally messed up.
What party has been cancelled you are most sad about?
Without a doubt: Wildeburg and Dekmantel. I had the best time last year, and it breaks my heart we canāt go this summerā¦
Are you eating healthier because of quarantine or less healthy?
The first few weeks I was living of cheeses and wine, haha. But Iāve decided to start eating more healthy again. I feel way better if I eat like I normally would, it gives me more energy.
