People of Amsterdam | Joey

Meet the People of Amsterdam. Here we will showcase a different Amsterdam native every week. Every Amsterdam native will share a little about their lives during quarantine, sharing their favorite spots, and what makes Amsterdam so special to them. These interviews were done during quarantine. Take it all in. After all, the People of Amsterdam know Amsterdam best. This week: Joey Mata, DJ and Owner of Good Good Agency.

How has the coronavirus changed your daily life?
Itā€™s crazy. Iā€™m really used to work by day and playing my sets in the clubs at night. Now that all the nightclubs are closed, I have more time and energy to put in my marketing agency and other projects. I just moved into a new office and I try to come as early as possible to get the most out of the day.

What things didnā€™t change?
The contact with family and friends didnā€™t change. I use FaceTime more than ever. Suddenly Iā€™ve also got more contact with friends that you donā€™t speak with that often. Letā€™s keep it this way!

Whatā€™s your favorite spot in your home?
For sure my couch! My girlfriend loves to do our interior and she came up with this huge comfy Netflix couch from Decor Amsterdam. I love to do a quick power nap with my dog Balou.

Whatā€™s your experience with working from home?
It was okay for 3 weeks. I moved my computer screen from the office to my kitchen table and the table became a desk/game/eating area after 3 weeks. I felt a little bit locked up in some type of way, sitting at the kitchen table day in, day out. After a couple of weeks, I decided to grab my computer and go back to my new office where Iā€™m now working from.

What is your favorite restaurant to order from?
Local Deli. Itā€™s a small deli in the Vondelpark area with vibrant healthy food. The menu changes every week and itā€™s always super delicious.

Did you have any plans that are cancelled now?
Way too many to mention.. it started in March when I had a trip scheduled to Miami Music Week. After that, my summer schedule with festival and club gigs were cancelled.

We believe in ā€˜support your localsā€™. Do you have a store in your neighbourhood that you still support?
I know what it takes to start a new business and the guys from SQM2 gym worked really hard to build a great gym within a year. I continued to support SQM2 gym when they had to close their gym.

What is your favorite area to go for a walk these days?
The Vondelpark is around the corner of my house. When I go for a walk you can find me in the park!

What restaurant/bar/coffee shop do you miss the most?
CafĆ© de Klos. Itā€™s a hidden gem in the Kerkstraat. Itā€™s my favorite place to take my friends for dinner when we fancy beer and ribs. Trust me, they have the best.

What is the first thing you are going to do when we are out of lockdown?
Organise a huge BBQ for my grandparents in our house!

How do you keep up with your selfcare from home?
Eat healthy, do a few meditation sessions per week.

What party that has been cancelled are you most sad about?
I really looked forward to my set at Chin Chin Festival this summer. As a resident DJ at the Chin Chin club, itā€™s the icing on the cake when you can play a set during their festival.

Are you eating healthier because of quarantine or less healthy?
I love healthy cooking and we always do groceries for 5 days per week. For the other days, weā€™re ordering food (sometimes less healthy) or eating together with our friends.
